Websites which offer services to search the Electoral Roll (edited register*) and general people search services:
- 192.com - some free searching available, but limited results, and registration required. Cost is by pre-loaded credits and depending on which source you search, depends on how many credits you use. Their Trace product is quite transparent in its charging options (corporate subscribers only).
- theukelectoralroll.co.uk/ - UK electoral roll searches, various pricing options available. The database of OnlineSearches consists of the UK electoral roll, births, marriages, deaths and consented consumer data.
- http://www.eroll.co.uk - registration required, searches UK electoral roll using Peopletracer.
- CreditSafe (Trace & Verify) - good service, offers same information as 192.com and results can be printed/downloaded into a more "authoritative" format
- Accelus - screening solution provided by Thomson Reuters (formerly known as ‘GS Enterprise’), subscripton required
- Quick Address Pro (QAS) - service offered by Experian. Annual per user subscription service or pay per click/search option.
- Zoominfo - a people search option - not electoral roll data.
Other useful sites:
*The edited register is the only register of electoral roll available to commercial sources. The edited register does not contain details of all people on the electoral roll as individuals are able to opt-out of it. Therefore, if a person you are looking for does not appear using one of the services above at the address you think, it could be that they have removed themselves from the edited register or moved house.
The following companies are the only ones allowed to access to the Full Register (for credit/AML checks): Equifax, Experian, and Call Credit and permission is required from the individual to access their credit history as it leaves a trace on their credit file.
Some identity services have additional add-on services which check other information such as PEPs (Politically Exposed Person's), Sanction Lists and Halo Deceased data.

For those interested in the future of the edited register, there is a consultation on the future of the edited register - whether to abolish it, or make it Opt-In. Closes in Feb 2010: http://www.justice.gov.uk/consultations/electoral-registers-consultation.htm
