Local statutory instruments

There are two categories of local statutory instruments: published and unpublished. Originally called Local Statutory Rules and Orders (SR&Os); since 1947 they have been called Local Statutory Instruments (SIs).

Published local SIs

Published local SIs are on the Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI) website from 1987 onwards (http://www.opsi.gov.uk/stat.htm - they are located among the public general SIs).  Neither published nor unpublished local SIs are included in the bound volumes of statutory instruments produced by The Stationery Office.  Both published and unpublished local SIs are listed - but not reproduced in full - in the official bound volumes of SIs and SR&Os (back to 1890); in the monthly and annual Lists of SIs (though this may not be the case for earlier periods); and in the TSO Daily Lists.  Both types of local SIs are numbered in the same series as public general SIs.

Unpublished local SIs

Unpublished local SIs are obtainable, for a fee, from the Statutory Instrument Registrar, for the current year and the previous year. Contact the Statutory Instrument Registrar, Telephone: 020 7276 5211 or email: siregistrar@cabinet-office.x.gsi.gov.uk. Earlier unpublished local SIs can be obtained from: The National Archives, Kew, Richmond, Surrey TW9 4DU; tel: 020 8876 3444. Quote Class TS 37.
