Magistrates' courts

Page history last edited by Anneli Sarkanen 3 years, 7 months ago Saved with comment

Details of the result of a case can be obtained by calling the relevant magistrate's court. Result can be given over the phone.

Cause lists are available via Courtserve.net, published a day in advance (towards the end of the day) (lists became available online for the first time from 1 Sept 2020, see announcement)

If looking for transcripts of hearings or judgments then these are normally only available to the parties involved in the case. See the Inner Temple Transcripts Guide (2017). But no formal record is kept of Magistrates Court proceedings.

Note: The Judiciary website has published the occasional Magistrates' court judgment - this is rare but could be a source to check if the case was important/had wide public interest. For example, one was found from January 2013 from Stratford Magistrates' Court: http://www.judiciary.gov.uk/judgments/ashley-gill-webb-judgment-11012013/ and 2016 Westminster Magistrates: https://www.judiciary.gov.uk/judgments/the-government-of-the-united-states-of-america-v-navinder-singh-sarao/
