Republic of Ireland Statutes

Page history last edited by Ruth O'Flaherty 6 years, 4 months ago

You may also wish to read Sinead Curtin and Alice Steen's review of sources of Irish legislation in LIM, 2011, 11(3), 185-190.

The electronic Irish Statute Book  (eISB) database contains the full text of Acts of the Oireachtas 1922-current and Statutory Instruments 1922-current.  Most pre-1922 legislation still in force in Ireland is also available on the website.

Legislative amendments were previously held in a section of the eISB known as the Legislation Directory. The information from the Legislation Directory has now been integrated into relevant parts of the site. For example, to find the list of amendments made to a particular Act, go to that Act and then click on the “Amendments, Commencements, SIs made under this Act” button.
To learn more about the eISB please read the information in the FAQ section on the website. Please note the disclaimer on the eISB.

The eISB also has links to other sources of information on Irish legislation, including Bills & Acts  published by the Houses of the Oireachtas; Bilingual Acts of the Oireachtas; Bunreacht na hÉireann/Constitution of Ireland and Iris Oifigiúil / Official Irish State Gazette.

Acts on eISB and on the Oireachtas website is as enacted. You can use the Tables on the Irish Statute Book website to identify provisions of Acts that have been repealed or amended. Click on the Act to see a list of all amendments.

There is no official consolidation of Irish legislation although the Law Reform Commission are undertaking a Programme of Restatement.  Revised Acts (administrative consolidations are available on the Law Reform Commission website at: http://www.lawreform.ie/revised-acts.84.html

Consolidated legislation is available via subscription sites http://www.westlaw.ie/  and http://www.betterregulation.com/ie
