Newspaper collection at the British Library

The British Library Newspapers collection at Colindale closed in November 2013 and the print newspapers were moved to the new National Newspaper Building at Boston Spa, West Yorkshire, while the newspaper microfilm collection was moved to the British Library's St Pancras site.  A full newspaper service is now available via the British Library Newsroom at St Pancras.

British Library Newsroom at St Pancras:

  • Provides access to newspapers in print, microfilm and digital formats
  • Print newspapers stored in the National Newspaper Building take 48 hours to arrive at the Newsroom
  • Microfilm newspapers are delivered to the Newsroom within 70 minutes of request (it is possible to order items online before arrival)
  • To use the Newsroom you must register for a Reader Pass (you will need two forms of identification)

Please note this update - in November 2013 the reading room at Colindale will close. The national newspaper collection will be moved from Colindale to Boston Spa in West Yorks. There will be a dedicated newspaper reading room at the Library's main site in St Pancras. http://www.bl.uk/reshelp/findhelprestype/news/newspapermoves/index.html
